Sketch Writing Online with Amanda Caswell
Sketch Writing 101 is an introduction to a unique style of sketch comedy writing, focusing on improvisation as a writing tool for individuals and ensembles. In a constructive and supportive writing environment, this course will help you develop your improv toolbox to serve you as a sketch comedy pro.
Students will learn how to take risks, build confidence and experience success in their comedy. Explore the basic sketch writing philosophies with experienced comedy writer, Amanda Caswell, as a guide. Students of this course will effectively learn how to develop an idea from a simple thought or brainstorm into a fully formed theatrical piece ready for an audience. Each week students will have an assignment and receive feedback and direction. The course will cover many different styles of comedy including 2 and 3 person scenes, and genre scenes. Whether you have previous comedy experience and are looking to hone your skills or are completely new to the world of scripted funny, we will help you discover, refine and heighten your unique comedic voice. Students new to improv are encouraged to enroll! Amanda Caswell, a former Nickelodeon script writer and Comedy Central copywriter has spent evenings backstage in the writing rooms of SNL, Seth Myers, and Jimmy Fallon. She currently uses her comedy chops for advertising strategies and social media campaigns.
